I always have had thing for a guy in boots and a cowboy hat but I never wanted to marry a farmer. I hated the farm growing up and didn't want to be stuck being a farmers wife. But as of the first of the year Jared decided to start investing in cattle. He went out and purchased 19 calves and after I told him I did not want a horse and he still came home with one. I was very hesitant especially being from an auction and not knowing one thing about her. But she proved me wrong and grew on me. Jared jumped right on her bare back because we didn't have a saddle and rode her around. Then he led all the kids around on her too.
The twins were so happy they could stop smiling.
I decided that this horse was meant to be. Jared was pricing some saddles which are quite expensive and dad said that his old saddle used to be at the Simkins house. Well that was at least 15 years ago when I had a horse there and Kent passed away about 5 years ago so I told him there was no way it was still there. He said it was my grandpa Holt's saddle and that he can remember him using it when he was a kids so its got to be about 50-60 years old! Dad made a phone call and the next morning we had the saddle in our hands! It is a really beautiful saddle too! We are so lucky to have found it! And now we have the saddle that my Grandpa Holt, Dad, Brothers, and Sisters, Me, and now my kids will get to use this saddle. What a wonderful blessing!
She looks healthy but her grooming had been neglected a little. Her hooves had to be trimmed and we had to work all the sticker out of her main. She just stood there while we scrubbed and washed her then sprayed her off. She had some energy after that and Jared led about ten kids around the yard on her giving them a ride. She really seem to be a good horse. After weeks of no one agreeing on a name Jared named her Moonshine. Poor thing! But she loves him so I will go with it. She sticks her nose at Jareds back and follows him around. Its so cute!
I haven't been able to get Juel to rid a horse for a few years. Every time he got a chance he refused to! But he jumped right on Moonshine! I was so surprised! He has ridden her quite a few time now!
She doesn't like anyone on back but she didn't mind both girls in the saddle!
Now Jared get up every morning to feed the cows. He spends all of his free time on the farm. He takes care of 25 of them. He has two little ones and this one he has to bottle feed. She got really sick and he has been helping Lavon with his sick cows so he's learning how to doctor cows. He even gave one an IV in the jugular. I think its crazy how much he loves his farm animals but he despises cats and dogs! So now he owes me and I just might surprise him one day with a dog!
The kids had fun feeding the calf. Juel is so afraid of it though. He kept shaking his hand when he would get scared and scaring the calf away. Kind of funny!
We have also had fun seeing the new little calves in Lavon's heard. This is the third one this year and she is only one day old. She is so small and it was fun to see her wobbling around not quite steady on her feet yet. I do have to admit I haven't minded being a farmers wife yet but it's just the beginning!
