Hole in the Rock

Jared and I got to go with the youth from our ward to Escalante and learn about the Hole in the Rock.  It was so nice to get away from the crazy busy work on the house for  a couple of days!
They have a really neat museum with these beautiful paintings.  The guide told us some great stories!
It took a very long time on bad washboard dirt roads to get there.  We stopped at a few places on the way there.  This is Braxton on top of the Devil's Garden.

The we stopped at Dance Hall Rock where the pioneer had dances.

There was this big hole that Lee told us a troubled youths group would put boys down in for punishment.  YIKES! Jared was panicked the whole time with the kids running around there like crazy!

Of course we had to dance at Dance Hall Rock!
Then on to hole in the rock.   It was a very long hike down to Lake Powell and about half the kids didn't take water with them.  We were warned that it was a mile down but 5 miles back up! Some of the kids started to get dehydrated and had a hard time getting back up.  It was really, really hard!  I can't believe the pioneers drove the horses and covered wagons down that! It's truly a miracle that they all survived!

Poor Jay!  He made our trip so entertaining but he was stuck right between Braxton and Randon the whole way!  What a trooper!

It was a very long time in the car and our muffler ended up falling off on the dirt road.  It was so loud!! Jared and Randon were able to wire it on to help quiet it down a little.  The guide said that just about every group that heads out comes back with some type of car damage.
It was worth it though.  We all learned a lot and had a great time!
